I deviated from the usual tech stories with my latest piece for the UT San Diego. The UT was interested in finding out about the new local guy taking over DLA Piper, one of the largest law firms in the world.
Cameron “Jay” Rains, who became U.S. co-chairman of the firm in January, is not new to San Diego. He’s the guy who launched the successful effort to get the U.S. Open to the city in 2008. While not a native, Rains moved his family to San Diego in the early ’80s and is quite active in the community, not to mention the recipient of loads of lawyer awards. Rain’s doesn’t speak in lawyer-ese but seems to be a down-to-earth guy who loves his job, his adopted city and spending time with his family.
He carries an iPhone by the way but isn’t a big fan of any legal apps in particular. Prefers getting financial news via apps. Imagine that!
